High-Level Objectives
In this section, we document the broad objectives of the project. Why does our partner want us to run mystery demos with their competitors/benchmark companies?
- Assess Competitor Strengths and Weaknesses: Pied Piper seeks to better understand how their competitors’ data compression and transfer tools compare in terms of performance, pricing, user experience, and customer support.
- Identify Unique Selling Propositions: The goal is to identify what unique features competitors are promoting in the marketplace that resonate with customers and if there are any gaps that Pied Piper can exploit in their marketing or product offering.
- Benchmark Customer Experience: Pied Piper wants to evaluate how competitors handle customer inquiries, onboarding, and support during the sales/demo process to uncover areas where they may be able to differentiate through superior customer service.
- Improve Sales and Demo Processes: By learning from the best practices (and mistakes) of their competitors, Pied Piper aims to refine its own sales pitches and demo structure to better address customer pain points and position their product more effectively.
Granular Objectives
Here go detailed objectives and goals for the project. What exactly do we want to find out about each company? What aspects of every competing/benchmark product we’d like to explore or learn about? Get as much helpful input from the partner company as possible.
- Product Usability and Interface: Evaluate how intuitive and user-friendly the competitors’ platforms are during the demo. Look for design simplicity, ease of navigation, and onboarding processes. How many steps are required to complete basic tasks such as file compression or data transfer? Are there any features that stand out?
- Core Features Comparison:
- Does the competitor offer dynamic compression similar to Pied Piper?
- How effective is their encryption and security for data transfers?
- What integrations do they offer with cloud services like AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure?
- Does their product offer automation for file transfers, and if so, how customizable is it?
- Are their tools optimized for handling large-scale data operations, and do they support bulk data uploads/downloads?
- Pricing Models: Determine how competitors structure their pricing. Is it subscription-based or usage-based? Are there hidden fees (e.g., setup or customization costs)? How does their pricing compare to Pied Piper's? Are there discounts for small or large enterprises? What features, if any, are included in different pricing tiers?
- Customer Support Experience:
- How quickly do competitors respond to inquiries (response time benchmarks)?
- How knowledgeable and helpful are their sales or support staff during the demo process?
- Do they provide additional resources like tutorials, FAQs, or product manuals? Are these materials easy to understand and implement?
- Performance Benchmarks:
- Test the actual compression rates and compare the speed and efficiency of data transfers.
- Measure the success rate of bulk file transfers and evaluate any errors or latency issues during the process.
- Compare the data recovery and integrity post-compression between Pied Piper and its competitors.
- Customizability and White-Labeling: Investigate the extent to which competitors allow customization or white-labeling of their products. What branding options are available? How easy is it to implement these customizations? Are there any limitations or additional fees associated with customization?
- Unique Features or Differentiators: Identify any innovative or unique features competitors are offering. This might include AI-powered data optimization, integration with third-party analytics platforms, or enhanced data visualization tools.
- Onboarding Process: Assess how easy and comprehensive the onboarding process is. Is the competitor’s demo well-structured, clear, and informative? Does the company offer assistance in setting up the product or training after purchase?
- Market Positioning and Messaging: Analyze how competitors position themselves in terms of product messaging, target industries, and key benefits. Do they emphasize speed, security, scalability, or cost-efficiency? How are they addressing common customer pain points?
- User Feedback and Reputation: Gather insights on what customers and users are saying about the competitor products during the demo process. Are there any recurring themes in terms of dissatisfaction or praise? Does the company have strong reviews, testimonials, or case studies?
